Fort Mitchell, KY/July 28, 2009—One doesn’t normally connect the sounds of pop music artist Lady Gaga and the shuffle of clogging shoes.

But that’s what you’ll find (among other music genres) if you attend the 16th annual Midwest Clogging Workshop August 13-15 at the Drawbridge Inn. More than 200 cloggers from as far away as Tennessee, Virginia and Canada will converge on the Fort Mitchell hotel. This is the second time the event is being held in summer, moving from its traditional time slot of Thanksgiving Day weekend, according to organizer Fonda Hill.

“The conflict with the holiday weekend really began to affect our attendee numbers. We also hope that people who have wanted to attend the workshop in the past but couldn’t because of family or shopping commitments will now be motivated to check it out.”

The dancing begins on Thursday, August 13 at 8 p.m. The public is invited to that as well as dances Friday, August 14th and Saturday, the 15th at the same time. Admission is $5 per person. Information: (859) 760-8497 or www.midwestcloggingky.com.

It was three years ago that then-Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher named clogging the official dance of the Commonwealth. Hill estimates there are approximately 1,000 clogging enthusiasts from Kentucky with a noticeable increase in families joining classes she teaches. The annual Clogfest will take place in Frankfort October 4th attracting enthusiasts from all over the Commonwealth.
