Fort Mitchell, KY/September 10, 2009—The Bi Annual Reunion of The USS WREN DD568 will take place at the Drawbridge Inn September 23rd thru 27th. This is the group's 14th reunion and will be attended by 50 crewmen and wives and children for a total of over 115 in attendance.
The ship was in service from 1944 through 1963. A few of the men expected to attend the reunion were present for the surrender of Japan on the USS Missouri while tied alongside. The Wren was a Fletcher Class Destroyer, one of many of this class but the fastest of them all, holding the Fleet speed record until she retired. She operated in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters thru most of her life.
The men will tour the entire local area and enjoy the benefits of a River Cruise and dinner, a three-city tour and a tour of the Lexington Horse Park. Some will go shopping and will visit local restaurants and etc. We will also have a dinner dance on Saturday evening and installation of new officers for the next reunion on Sunday morning.
